Feast Your Eyes on this Rare ’70s Photo of Queen Elizabeth & Prince Philip

Prepare to take a walk down memory lane, because the British royal family just shared a throwback photo of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Earlier today, the family’s official Instagram account posted a rare picture of the royal couple from the ’70s in honor of World Book Day.

In the photo, Queen Elizabeth is sitting at her desk as she casually flips through a book, while Prince Philip stands directly behind her. Although he’s looking off into the distance, he has a protective hand resting on her back. (You know, just in case.)

The pic was taken back in 1976 in the library of Balmoral Castle, which explains the floor to ceiling bookcases.

In addition to the picture of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, the slideshow also features a painting of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, along with a video of Camilla Parker Bowles celebrating World Book Day.

The caption read, “This #WorldBookDay the Royal Collection Trust will be sharing books from the Royal Library as well as book-related activities for children and adults throughout the day. Follow @royalcollectiontrust for more!”

The post came just a few hours after Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Philip underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition. The duke is currently staying at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, where he’ll remain for “treatment, rest and recuperation for a number of days.”

Thank you, British royals. We really needed this.
