Buckingham Palace enjoys a good surprise…especially one that features a stunning portrait of a royal.

On September 3, King Charles paid a visit to the Oratory of St Philip Neri, where he greeted employees and was shown the prestigious Cardinal’s Room. After the visit, the Buckingham Palace Instagram account shared a carousel of striking photos, the first of which featured the King standing all alone and looking dapper in a grey plaid suit with a pink, multicolored tie. A soft smile could be seen on his face as he visited different parts of the oratory, and additional pictures showed him in a library and meeting with priests.

The post was captioned, “In Birmingham, The King has visited the Oratory of St Philip Neri, which opened in 1909 in memory of St. John Henry Newman. His Majesty was shown the Cardinal’s Room, which remains exactly as St. John Henry left it when he died in 1890. The room has no heating or electricity, and Newman’s books, possessions, Rosaries and items of clothing remain untouched.”

Fans enjoyed the posts, with one writing, “What a profound and moving visit— a reminder of the deep spiritual heritage that continues to inspire today. It’s wonderful to see His Majesty honoring the legacy of St. John Henry Newman, whose faith and wisdom still touch so many lives.”

Another added, “I am truly fond of how King Charles thoroughly enjoys most of his visits; one can feel his face and smiles are real.”

Buckingham Palace frequently posts eye-catching photos of the royal family. In August, the account posted a striking photograph of Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, in celebration of his birthday, which was a surprise to many, as they very rarely post images of the Duke, normally sticking to its core cast of senior royals.

The post included three photos of the Duke that showed him chatting with children and shaking someone’s hand, along with a stunning photograph of his wife, Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester
