It might be a year away, but we’re already getting more details about Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
That’s right—the 95-year-old monarch will be celebrating 70 years of service since her ascendance to the throne next year. To mark the occasion, Buckingham Palace has already begun planning the extravagant weekend event.
Last month, the official IG account of the royal family announced the plans for the Jubilee. “Her Majesty The Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee from Thursday 2nd—Sunday 5th June 2022,” they captioned the slideshow. “The weekend will provide an opportunity for communities throughout the U.K. to come together to celebrate this historic milestone.”
The official jubilee weekend celebration will kick off with the queen's annual birthday parade, the Trooping the Colour. The following day, beacons will be lit across the country followed by a Service of Thanksgiving for the queen's reign held at St. Paul’s Cathedral. On Saturday, the Derby at Epsom Downs will be held, along with a live concert at Buckingham Palace, while the final day will include the Big Jubilee Lunch and a pageant.
