Queen Elizabeth's Next Major Party Is Giving Us 'Game of Thrones' Vibes

It might be a year away, but we’re already getting more details about Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.

That’s right—the 95-year-old monarch will be celebrating 70 years of service since her ascendance to the throne next year. To mark the occasion, Buckingham Palace has already begun planning the extravagant weekend event

Last month, the official IG account of the royal family announced the plans for the Jubilee. “Her Majesty The Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee from Thursday 2nd—Sunday 5th June 2022,” they captioned the slideshow. “The weekend will provide an opportunity for communities throughout the U.K. to come together to celebrate this historic milestone.”

The official jubilee weekend celebration will kick off with the queen's annual birthday parade, the Trooping the Colour. The following day, beacons will be lit across the country followed by a Service of Thanksgiving for the queen's reign held at St. Paul’s Cathedral. On Saturday, the Derby at Epsom Downs will be held, along with a live concert at Buckingham Palace, while the final day will include the Big Jubilee Lunch and a pageant.

Now, according to People, a giant dragon (the size of an iconic London bus) is to be a centerpiece to a carnival-like pageant and will “snake through” the streets of London. The “circus-like atmosphere” will involve around 5,000 people, including marching bands and community groups from around the U.K. and the Commonwealth.

Per the outlet, there will also be a recreation of the moment Elizabeth ascended to the throne, where people will be “dressed in the elaborate costumes of 250 animals in an interpretation of the reaction of the animal kingdom to the news of the new queen.” Only the best for the longest-serving monarch

Dragons and elaborate costumes? Only the best for the longest-serving Khaleesi monarch.
