Princess Diana’s Brother Charles Spencer Posts Extremely Rare Pics of Their Dad on IG

On the anniversary of their father’s death, Charles Spencer (Princess Diana’s brother) is honoring his memory by posting an extremely rare photo of the late John Spencer on social media.

Yesterday, Charles Spencer posted a photo slideshow of his father on his Instagram page. The first pic showed a younger version of the nobleman, sporting a military uniform with his hair slicked back.

However, the next photo showed the former military officer at a later time in his life. In the painted portrait, a much older John Spencer wore a black suit jacket with a white striped shirt, slacks and a brown checkered tie.

He wrote in the caption, “Remembering my father, Johnnie Spencer, who died OTD 30 years ago,” and went on to explain the two photographs displayed above.

This is certainly not the first time Charles Spencer posted a historical throwback to the internet. Last week, the 9th Earl Spencer posted an old photograph of his grandmother, Cynthia Spencer, walking beside the Queen Mother.

Charles Spencer explained the history behind the photo in the caption, writing, “King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visiting No. 617 Squadron in May 1943, a few days after its Lancaster bombers pulled off the stunningly daring raid that would leave the squadron immortalized as ‘the Dam Busters.’”

The best-selling novelist later pointed out his grandmother for viewers to see, saying, “The lady in the dark dress in mid-frame is my grandmother, Cynthia Spencer, who was a courtier attending the Queen that day. #thedambusters.”

A fitting tribute indeed.
