Daisy Edgar-Jones Brings Kya to Life in New ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ Trailer

This all-new book-to-film adaption looks right up our alley.

Sony just released a brand-new trailer for Where the Crawdads Sing. The highly anticipated movie is not only produced by Reese Witherspoon, but it also looks equally as thrilling as the best-selling book by Delia Owens (which is saying a lot).

The full-length trailer brings the story to life, following a girl named Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones) who grew up in the North Carolina marshes. Everything changes when the police suspect she’s involved in the murder of a local man from her past.

“In town, they tell the story of the Marsh Girl. The one who grew up alone in the wild,” Kya says in the clip. “But they never really knew me. Like most stories, the facts don’t weigh into it.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a sneak peek of the upcoming movie. Earlier this year, Taylor Swift shared a teaser on Instagram and revealed that she wrote the song that’s featured in the clip.

The caption read, “Where the Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side.”

Swift continued, “I wrote the song ‘Carolina’ alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it. I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story. You’ll hear it fully soon, but for now check out the @crawdadsmovie trailer for a clip!”

Other cast members include Harris Dickinson (Beach Rats), Taylor John Smith (Sharp Objects), David Strathairn (Nightmare Alley), Garret Dillahunt (The Mindy Project), Ahna O’Reilly (The Help) and Michael Hyatt (The Little Things).

The question is: Do we really need another book-to-film adaptation? Guess we’ll have to wait until Where the Crawdads Sing hits theaters on July 15 to find out.
