Nobody knows Princess Margaret’s wardrobe better than Vanessa Kirby.
In fact, the actress recently sat down for an interview with InStyle to discuss the iconic character, which she portrayed in seasons one and two of The Crown. Although Princess Margaret’s attire is far from simple, Kirby admitted that it helped her get into character.
She said, “Dressing as Margaret changed my life because it was the first time I went so deep with a character through her fashion choices.”
Kirby also revealed that she studied her character’s wardrobe prior to filming in hope of understanding the dynamic between Margaret and her sister, Queen Elizabeth.
She added, “I studied old pictures of Margaret in magazines to prepare for the role, and one thing I realized was how she defined her style identity in relation to her older sister, Queen Elizabeth. Theirs was the most significant relationship of her life, and I think Margaret pushed the boundaries further because her sister didn’t.”
Although Princess Margaret will be portrayed by Helena Bonham-Carter in season three, we can only hope she’s as graceful as Kirby in suffocating period dresses.
Season three of The Crown is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2019.
