Remember when the Twitterverse made up a brilliant movie plot starring Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o based on the best photo to ever come out of 2014 Paris Fashion Week? Well, Netflix is turning that collective dream into a majorly badass reality.
Today, Netflix announced it acquired the rights to the untitled Rihanna and Lupita heist film. The streaming giant already has Rihanna and Nyong’o signed on to star, Ava DuVernay (Selma) to direct and is in talks with Issa Rae to pen the film. The idea for the film originally stemmed from a viral TBT photo of Rihanna and Nyong'o at the 2014 Miu Miu fashion show. The mere image of the gal pals sitting together, stone-faced and clearly meaning business, inspired Twitter users to devise the storyline of Rihanna (a con woman) and Nyong’o (her co-conspirator). Ask and you shall receive, Twitterverse.
Although Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date, reports say the film will begin production in 2018. Twitterverse for the win!
