New Shonda Rhimes Series About a Con Artist Stars Our Favorite ‘Ozark’ Actress—See the Trailer

If you haven't heard of Shonda Rhimes, she's only the creator of hit series like Grey's Anatomy and Scandal, as well as the producer of smashes like Bridgerton and How to Get Away with Murder. (No biggie.) So, when we hear there's a new show on the way from her production company, Shondaland, you can bet that we'll be watching.

After inking a multi-year deal with Netflix back in 2017, Rhimes's latest project to hit the streaming service is a new miniseries, titled Inventing Anna. And if Rhimes at the helm isn't enough to pique your interest, it will also feature Ozark actress (and Emmy Award winner) Julia Garner in the lead role.

Check out the first trailer, courtesy of Netflix, below.

Inventing Anna is based on a New York magazine article by Jessica Pressler that was published in 2018, titled, “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People.”

The original article tells the story of Anna Sorokin, a Russian-born swindler who pretended to be a German heiress under the name of Anna Delvey. While maintaining this fake identity, Sorokin defrauded banks, hotels and even wealthy friends for many years, until she was caught in 2017.

Garner will portray Sorokin in the new Netflix series, and she will star alongside Anna Chlumsky (Veep), Katie Lowes (Scandal), Laverne Cox (Orange Is the New Black), Alexis Floyd (The Bold Type), Arian Moayed (Succession) and Anders Holm (Workaholics).

While Garner portrays Sorokin, Chlumsky plays Vivian, a journalist who begins investigating the supposed heiress's life when she learns that the socialite is being tried for fraud. “People are painting a public picture of me as some criminal,” Sorokin tells Vivian during one of their meetings. “That's not my story.”

Inventing Anna will dive into the scandalous story when all 9 episodes premiere on February 11. Looks like another winner from Shonda.
