Ryan Reynolds Reveals There Is Already a ‘Free Guy’ Sequel in the Works

It's been a good week for Ryan Reynolds.

The Proposal star just saw the release of his latest movie, Free Guy, on August 13, and in the first two days alone, the movie collected over fifty million dollars at the box office. Meanwhile, the sci fi comedy has received positive reviews from critics and it currently holds an 82 percent"fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a consensus that says, “Combining a clever concept, sweet, self-aware humor, and a charming cast, Free Guy is frivolous fun.”

Now, the good news just keeps on rolling in for Reynolds because Disney is already talking of a sequel.

The announcement was shared by the actor on Twitter, where he tweeted, “Aaaannnnd after three years messaging as an original IP movie, Disney confirmed today they officially want a sequel. Woo hoo!! #irony.” The message was retweeted by the official 20th Century Studios account too.

In the movie, Reynolds stars as Guy, a bank teller who discovers that his life is taking place inside of an open-world video game.

Free Guy was originally going to be released in July of 2020, but its premiere was pushed back three times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alongside Reynolds, the movie stars Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Utkarsh Ambudkar (The Mindy Project), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit) and Camille Kostek (Wipeout).

The movie was directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum), with a screenplay by Matt Lieberman (The Christmas Chronicles) and Zak Penn (Ready Player One).

While it is unclear who would return for the sequel or what the story would follow, we'll be keeping our fingers crossed that we get another installment.
