Rihanna Spills Deets on Her Upcoming 9th Studio Album

It’s been almost four years since Rihanna released her last record, Anti. And now, the 31-year-old singer is opening up about what fans can expect from her next batch of music.

Rihanna recently appeared on the cover of the November issue of Vogue magazine, where she discussed her highly anticipated ninth studio album, which fans have dubbed R9. Although the past few years have been focused on Fenty, the musician confirmed that new music is in our very near future.

“I have been trying to get back into the studio,” she said. “It’s not like I can lock myself in for an extended amount of time, like I had the luxury of doing before. I know I have some very unhappy fans who don’t understand the inside bits of how it works.”

When asked what listeners can expect from the new record, Rihanna revealed that it has reggae vibes…with a twist. “I like to look at it as a reggae-inspired or reggae-infused album,” she explained. “It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks.”

Throughout her career, Rihanna has released eight studio albums, including Music of the Sun (2005), A Girl Like Me (2006), Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), Rated R (2009), Loud (2010), Talk That Talk (2011), Unapologetic (2012) and Anti (2016). Although she has defined her own style of music, the singer admitted that she’ll always have a soft spot for the Jamaican genre.

“Reggae always feels right to me. It’s in my blood,” Rihanna continued. “Even though I’ve explored other genres of music, it was time to go back to something that I haven’t really homed in on completely for a body of work.”

Please don’t stop the music, RiRi.
