Princess Sofia Just Welcomed a Baby Boy—Here’s How the Newborn Affects the Swedish Line of Succession

Congratulations are in order for Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip of Sweden!

The couple just welcomed their third child together, a baby boy whose name has yet to be publicly revealed. The Swedish royal family announced the exciting news in a statement, which confirmed that Princess Sofia gave birth earlier today at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm.

“We are so happy and grateful to be able to welcome our third son to our family,” Prince Carl Philip said. “Princess Sofia and I, and his two big brothers, have all been longing for this day. And now we are looking forward to getting to know this new little member of our family.”

Prince Carl Philip is referring to his and Princess Sofia’s two children, Prince Alexander (4) and Prince Gabriel (3). The royal is the son of King Carl XVI Gustaf, which means the new baby is seventh in line to the Swedish throne.

We first learned that Princess Sofia was expecting her third child back in December. The royal couple shared a gorgeous black-and-white photo on their official Instagram page (@kungahuset) and wrote, “We are happy and excited and look forward to welcoming our third child. A new little member of our family.”

Cue the onslaught of baby name predictions.
