Four months before her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle deleted her Instagram in accordance with royal protocol. So why does Princess Eugenie, a royal by birth, get to ’Gram to her heart’s content? The reason is actually quite simple.

According to People, it’s likely because although Eugenie is an IRL princess and lives at Kensington Palace, she’s not an official working member of the royal family. She actually has a “normal person” job at an art gallery and isn’t even listed on the royal family website. And since “princess” isn’t her official job title, she’s able to operate outside the realm of strict royal protocol and can use social media to her liking (without disapproving side eye from Gan-Gan Queen Elizabeth).

The question remains: Since Prince Harry is now sixth in line to the throne, will Meghan be allowed to return to Instagram at some point? It’s really anyone’s (*cough* the queen’s) guess, but the royal family has made an effort to relax (and modernize) protocol in the recent past. Take for instance Meghan’s first-person pre-wedding statement and Prince William speaking candidly about mental health.

May the odds be ever in your Instagram favor, Meg.
