As we wait for the arrival of The Crown season three, we’re forced to focus on more plebeian programming (JK, we’re counting the seconds until Queen Elizabeth returns and Princess Diana makes her entrance).
Unfortunately, The Crown royal historian Robert Lacey told PureWow in an exclusive interview celebrating the Blue-ray and DVD release of season two that Princess Di isn’t joining the hit Netflix show just yet (even though series creator Peter Morgan said she is in a 2016 Vanity Fair interview).
“Season three goes from 1964 to the late 1970s so we do get to meet Camilla [Parker Bowles] in season three, but we will not meet Diana until season four,” Lacey explained.
“This upcoming season establishes who Camilla was. We’re not quite sure, but we think she was his very first girlfriend,” he revealed. “She plays quite a large role towards the end of season three and we see how she helps Charles’s confidence…Camilla is a controversial character but there’s no doubt that Charles loves and derives enormous strength from her.”
Well, well. We didn’t see that coming.
