If we learned one thing from the royal wedding, it’s that Meghan Markle and Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy are a winning team.

So it only makes sense that when the 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance to honor Waight Keller with an award at last night’s 2018 Fashion Awards, she was wearing a bespoke velvet one-shoulder Givenchy gown. Needless to say, it was striking.

Markle accessorized the bump-hugging number with Tamara Mellon gold “Karat” strappy sandals ($550) and several pieces from Pippa Small’s Turquoise Mountain Afghanistan foundation collection: the “Nosheen” stud earrings ($60), “Oshna” bangle ($140), “Omeen” bangle ($190) and “Wajiha” bangle ($430). The foundation trains and employs young people in regions of conflict, a cause Markle holds dear to her heart.

The surprising one-shoulder number may have pushed the royal protocol envelope but, hey, if Kate Middleton can do it, so can she.
