Lin-Manuel Miranda is returning to his Tick, Tick…Boom! roots for his—drumroll, please—directorial debut.
The Hamilton creator will direct a movie based on the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, Tick, Tick…Boom! The best part? Miranda starred in a 2014 stage production of the work, so yeah, pressure’s on.
Tick, Tick…Boom! takes place in New York City and tells the story of an aspiring composer who begins to question his career choice. According to Miranda, adapting the story for the big screen was a no-brainer.
“Jonathan Larson’s captivating storytelling in Rent first taught me that musicals could be contemporary, true to life, and depict your own experiences,” he said in a statement. “But it was Tick, Tick…Boom! that solidified that drive in me to hone my own voice as a playwright.”
No word on when Tick, Tick…Boom! will hit theaters, but we have no doubt Hamilton is shaking in his boots.
