Get ready to experience J.R.R. Tolkien’s brilliance in an entirely new light with some Lily Collins preciously sprinkled on top. The To the Bone actress officially signed on to star as the famous author's wife, Edith Bratt, in the upcoming biopic about his early years, Tolkien.
You probably recognize Tolkien as the mastermind behind the wildly popular book series The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, but the film will introduce readers to his life and the experiences that inspired his famed novels. Collins will portray a younger version of the English writer’s wife and muse, Edith Bratt (later Edith Tolkien), who was the inspiration behind his fictional characters Lúthien Tinúviel and Arwen Evenstar from The Lord of the Rings saga.
Tolkien will take place prior to the outbreak of World War I in 1914 and follow the story of the twenty-something writer as he navigates life, love, friendship and education.
David Gleeson (The Front Line) and Stephen Beresford (Pride) will pen the script, Dome Karukoski (Heart of a Lion) will direct and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Anthony Boyle (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) will star alongside Collins.
While we don’t know when Tolkien will hit theaters, Collins is (thankfully) just as excited as we are about the film. “As a lifelong fan of Tolkien's magic, I can't wait to start this epic adventure,” she wrote on Twitter.
Same, Lily. Same.
