There’s no crying in baseball, but Amazon is giving us a massive dose of happy tears.
Amazon Studios is developing a new TV show based on the hit 1992 movie A League of Their Own. Oh, and did we mention Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle) will write and executive produce the series? *Breaks into happy dance*
The original movie, which stars Geena Davis as a housewife-turned-catcher and Tom Hanks as an alcoholic coach, tells the real-life story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. However, according to a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon’s version will further explore the ideals presented in the iconic Penny Marshall–directed movie.
It reads, “A League of Their Own is a half-hour comedy infusing the warmth, humor and DNA of the classic film, while taking a contemporary spin on the stories of the women surrounding the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The series dives deeper into the issues facing the country while following a ragtag team of women figuring themselves out while fighting to realize their dreams of playing professional baseball.”
The network hasn’t revealed any further details, but Jacobson is already up for the challenge (sorta).
“No pressure at all!” she wrote on Twitter, along with a GIF from the O.G. film.
In the wise words of Jimmy Dugan (Hanks), “If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.”
