Elaine Hendrix and Lisa Ann Walter may have played enemies in 1998's The Parent Trap, but in real life, they're closer than peanut butter and Oreos. This year's Emmys red carpet underscored that, as the actresses arrived at the awards show together, posing for photos and waving to fans.
The duo's outfits are a case study in complementary contrasts: Hendrix donned a strapless white gown with sequined floral details, while Walter opted for a black strapless gown with dramatic tulle sleeves.
While seeing the pair together immediately stoked speculation that a reboot—or sequel—to The Parent Trap could officially be in the works (more on that in a second), Hendrix and Walter are genuine friends. They've regularly attended events and supported each other in the nearly 30 years since they met on set of the Disney movie.
"People always talk about, 'Oh, you make time for your friends and you have to make it important.' It was never a chore. It was never something that I had to schedule," Walter told People about her friendship with Hendrix back in 2023. "Everybody has a person they check in with about everything in their life. And Elaine is it for me."
The feeling is mutual. "Meeting Lisa is like walking into a great big hug, and she's that way. Although I will say—and this is also one of the things I love about her—is that she's that way, unless you've crossed or done some s--- to her or one of her friends, and then watch out because then mama bear comes out and back off," Hendrix shared.
The pair immediately bonded on the first day of filming The Parent Trap. In the classic movie, Lindsay Lohan plays identical twins Hallie Parker and Annie James. Separated at birth, they meet at a summer camp and set an elaborate scheme to try to reunite their divorced parents. Walter played Chessy, the housekeeper and Hallie's nanny, while Hendrix played Meredith Blake, a glamorous publicist dating the twins' father.
The movie became so popular that it's still quoted to this day, and "Chessycore" became a major aesthetic on TikTok. At every turn, the stars are asked if they'll reprise their roles any time soon. Well, fans, the day may be approaching: Walter recently told Howard Stern that producers approached her at the Freakier Friday premiere. “They were like, ‘You’re gonna, you know, get the offer to reprise Chessy in Parent Trap 2,'" she said.
Until anything official is announced, we'll just have to appreciate their red carpet appearances. And keep our fingers crossed.
