Move over, Melissa Joan Hart. Netflix just found a new Sabrina Spellman.
Kiernan Shipka will portray the lead role in Netflix’s untitled TV show based on the classic ’90s series Sabrina the Teenage Witch. You probably recognize Shipka as Sally Draper from Mad Men, and we’re just hoping she brings all that Draper sassiness to the magical world of Westbridge, Massachusetts.
Similar to the original series and CW’s Riverdale, the characters will be inspired by the Archie Comics graphic novel. But unlike Hart’s innocent portrayal of Sabrina, this new version will be much more mysterious.
According to Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, series creator of Riverdale, “We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list. This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own.”
No further details have been released, but as long as Salem is involved, we’re all for it.
