To officially kick off the holiday season, Prince William and Kate Middleton hosted their first royal Christmas party of the year at their home of Kensington Palace. The party, hosted in partnership with the Royal British Legion Charity, was decked to the nines—including fake snow. As Kate and William passed by the patch of snow on the ground on their way to the party, they realized they were under the snow-blowing machine, and their surprised reaction is priceless.

We mean, just look at Prince William's face! Royals, they're just like us (except for the whole Insta-story-the-season's-first-snowfall thing).

Fashionable as always, Middleton wore a black Brora cropped sweater, Emilia Wickstead tartan midi skirt and black boots for the party, which is exactly the inspo we needed for our own holiday office party. William donned a blue quarter-zip sweater and navy dress pants.

Even Santa made an appearance (Santa! We know him!), which makes us wonder if George and Charlotte were there to meet the jolly ol' St. Nick. There were also activities for kids like snow globes, a photo booth, cracker making and stocking decorating stations.

The party was held for the military and their families, and the Duchess of Cambridge gave a speech about her husband’s time as a helicopter pilot in the Royal Air Force.

“As someone whose husband has served, I know how hard it feels when a loved one leaves to do the job they trained for,” she said in a video posted by royal correspondent Simon Perry on Twitter. “When William served in the Falklands or went search and rescue, I remember how it felt. But I can’t imagine how it feels when your loved ones are away on active service during Christmas. The absence of people you love must be especially hard at this time of year or at those special family moments.”

Snow and Santa and plaid skirts? We guess the royals really do know how to throw a proper Christmas party.
