ICYMI: Jude Law is joining the Marvel family in the forthcoming tentpole Captain Marvel. But even Marvel zealots aren’t sure what character he’s playing.

Thankfully, Law dropped a few hints about his secret new role in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

For those unfamiliar with the Captain Marvel plot, the film centers on Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), a human pilot with Kree alien DNA who lives on the planet of Hala and serves in an elite military squad called Starforce. It turns out that Law is the esteemed leader of the group.

He described his character as “driven by a belief in the divine leadership of the Kree people. So he’s almost a devout warrior—unquestioning, conservative, but inspirational.”

And although Starforce is a relatively large group, Law’s character decides to take on Carol as his mentee. As he explained, “These extraordinary powers she has, he sees them as something of a blessing and something that she needs to learn how to control.”

He added, “There’s a lot of back and forth that comes with the two of them, which kind of creates a little bit of tension with the rest of Starforce.” Uh-oh.

Sounds out of this world (literally).
