Wait, James Marsden Got Cut from ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’?!

If you were looking forward to James Marsden’s cameo in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, we have some bad news.

It all started earlier today when the Quentin Tarantino film hit theaters for the very first time. While some viewers were understandably upset about Margot Robbie’s (Sharon Tate) lack of screen time, many were quick to point out that Marsden was nowhere to be found.

The news might shock some fans, since he was included in a casting announcement back in June 2018. Marsden was slated to play Hollywood Western icon Burt Reynolds, who was also supposed to appear in the flick. However, Reynolds sadly passed away prior to filming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

So, did Reynolds’s passing result in Marsden getting cut from the movie? We’re not entirely sure, though we wouldn’t be surprised if Tarantino deemed the actor’s involvement irrelevant once Reynolds’s cameo was a no-go.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood takes place in Los Angeles in the late ’60s. The film follows washed-up actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double, Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), who happens to live next door to Sharon Tate (Robbie)—a victim of the Charles Manson murders.

Although we may never know the reason for Marsden’s snub, the actor still received a special shout-out in the credits, so there’s that.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is now playing in theaters.
