Ina Garten Cooks Up the Best Response to Not Having Children

The recipe for Ina Garten and her adoring husband Jeffrey's loving marriage is simple; it calls for a beautiful friendship, a dash of brownie pudding and the mutual decision not to have children.

Katie Couric asked the Cooking for Jeffrey author to get real about Garten family dynamics when she interviewed her on the most recent episode of The Katie Couric Podcast, available April 20.

The pair, who have been together for a whopping 48 years, met when Ina was a teen and visited her brother at Dartmouth University (where smarty-pants Jeffrey also went). The cooking magnate spoke freely with Couric about the choice she and Jeffrey made together to remain a two-person household.

“We decided not to have children,” Ina shared. “I really appreciate that other people do, and we will always have friends that have children that we are close to, but it was a choice I made very early.”

In response to Couric asking Ina how she felt about the stigma this decision might incite in others' eyes, Ina continued on to say that she never felt judged for not bearing children.

We didn’t think it was humanly possible to love this woman even more, but she’s gone and done it again.
