Hulu Releases Official Cast for ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Spin-Off ‘How I Met Your Father’

Hulu’s How I Met Your Mother spin-off is in full swing and we already have a list of the cast and characters.

Called How I Met Your Father, the 10 episode series was announced earlier this year, with Hilary Duff signed on to play lead, Sophie. Like the original, the sequel series was created and executive produced by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays and will feature Sophie telling her son the story of how she met his father.

“Kids, I’m going to tell you an incredible story: It’s the story of how two writers got lucky enough to make their dream TV show for nine seasons and now get to pass the torch to an inspired new creative team with their own incredible story to tell, the story of How I Met Your Father,” Bays and Thomas said in a statement per Deadline. “We are honored by their passion and vision, and look forward to helping them tell a legendary new story. Thanks to all the HIMYM fans out there who waited for it.”

The upcoming series, which doesn’t have a release date quite yet, will take place in 2021 (with flashbacks) and revolves around Sophie and her close group of friends who are trying to figure out their lives—both love and otherwise.

And Duff isn’t the only big name attached to the series, the streaming platform just released a major cast list and descriptions of the characters.

According to Bustle, Promising Young Woman actor Chris Lowell has signed on to play Jesse, Sophie’s smart yet cynical friend, while Grown-ish star Francia Raisa will star as Valentina, Sophie’s roommate and BFF. Tom Ainsley (The Royals) will portray Charlie, an aspiring model who fell in love with Valentina in Europe and followed her to New York.

In addition, Suraj Sharma (God Friended Me) and Tien Tran (Space Force) will also star as Sid, Jesse’s roommate and best friend, and Ellen, Jesse’s adopted sister who just moved to the Big Apple, respectively.

So, while we’re still recovering from the fact that the Lizzie McGuire reboot got axed, at least we have this to look forward to.
