Emma Roberts’s New ‘American Horror Story’ Boyfriend Is an IRL Olympic Skier

American Horror Story has been known to throw viewers for a loop, but the upcoming season just might take the cake.

AHS mastermind Ryan Murphy announced today that something surprising is brewing in the AHS universe: Emma Roberts is getting a new on-screen boyfriend. And—wait for it—he’s an IRL Olympic skier.

Murphy revealed via Instagram that the incredibly handsome Gus Kenworthy will appear in the next installment of the anthology series.

He captioned the pic of a shirtless Kenworthy, “That special moment when you realize you have an Olympic medal AND will be playing Emma Roberts’s boyfriend on ‘American Horror Story’ season 9.”

In addition to welcoming the skier to the massive AHS family, Murphy’s caption confirms there will be a season nine and Emma Roberts will return. This is the first piece of news that’s dropped about the next chapter of the popular series, and we have to say, we ain’t mad at it.

In past seasons, Roberts’s actual fiance, Evan Peters, has played her love interest. The two have appeared in seasons three, four, seven and eight together.

Now, she’s moving on to Kenworthy, who won a silver medal in the men’s slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The skier-turned-actor made his small-screen acting debut on The Real O’Neals on ABC in 2016 and went on to appear in Sharknado 5: Global Swarming as—you guessed it—a skier. He has also served as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars, so he’s building up quite the resume for himself.

No further details about American Horror Story season nine have been announced, but the series is slated to premiere on FX later this year. Until then, we’ll be shipping Kenworthy and Roberts’s characters.
