George R.R. Martin’s favorite part about his new book Fire and Blood isn’t the dragons or dramatic plot. In fact, the 70-year-old Game of Thrones creator says the best part of the forthcoming book is that he actually finished writing it.
Martin revealed he’s super relieved to be done toiling away on Fire and Blood during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He explained, “The book is a lot of fun. The people who are open to reading an imaginary history and not a novel—which I realize is not everybody—have enjoyed it so far. But honestly, the single thing that excites me most is that I finished it.” We love his honesty.
He went on to say that it’s not because he didn’t enjoy the writing process, but because he hates disappointing fans.
“I know there are a lot of people out there who are very angry with me that Winds of Winter isn’t finished. And I’m mad about that myself. I wished I finished it four years ago. I wished it was finished now. But it’s not,” Martin admitted.
The author says that frustration has led him to literally “pound [his] head against the keyboard” and ask, “What the hell is happening here?”
Sounds like someone needs a little vacation.
