Rumors have been swirling about a possible third Sex and the City film for years now. And while things seem to pretty much be up in the air, Miranda herself (aka Cynthia Nixon) is opening up about who could potentially play Samantha Jones.
ICYMI: In 2017, Kim Cattrall, who portrayed the original Samantha, revealed she would not be returning to the franchise. Since then, fans have been speculating about who could take her place, including actress Sharon Stone. And now, in a recent interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Nixon opened up about her pal tackling the role.
“I think Sharon would be of course totally amazing,” Nixon said during the segment in which Stone also made an appearance. “Kim was incredibly great as Samantha, I think Sharon would totally make it her own.” She continued. “I've also heard many people say, including Kim Cattrall herself, that if we were to have a different fourth woman that maybe it would be a woman of color this time. And I think that would be amazing as well.”
According to Stone, she was actually never made aware of the casting speculation, but that working with Nixon on another project (they currently star together on Netflix’s new series Ratched) would be an honor.
And while Nixon seemed open to the possibility of a third movie with a new Samantha, we aren’t holding our breath. SATC creator Darren Star previously told ET that replacing Cattrall isn’t something he’s actually considered very much. “I mean, for right now, it's like, I loved the series and those first two movies," he told the outlet.
We’ve waited this long, what’s another couple of years?
