This Is Us star Chrissy Metz isn’t one to shy away from bold and beautiful fashion choices (um, red latex dress #bless), but now she's opening up about her journey to feel comfortable on the red carpet.
In this week’s issue of People, Metz candidly spoke about her rise to fame and the impact Hollywood has on her personal style. “The red carpet transformed how I dressed. I never wore form-fitting dresses before,” she said. The actress, who's learning to positively cope with body critics, continued, “There are a lot of people who make you feel uncomfortable if you show a chubby stomach, arm or leg. I was being educated while becoming part of the conversation on size inclusivity.”
Metz went on to say she felt “worried about how things would photograph” when she started attending events for the hit NBC drama last year. Over time, the 36-year-old eventually “gained confidence” as red carpet soirées became weekly occurrences (NBD), and she transformed into a fearless, best-dressed-list goddess.
So what's her secret? The actress regularly teams up with a Los Angeles tailor, House of Cinderella, to create custom, unique looks for her public appearances that break away from traditional styles and make her feel like the queen she is. Metz continued, “I love bold colors and prints now, like the floral gown I wore to the 2017 Critics’ Choice Awards. Being a big girl, you want to hide sometimes, but with that dress, it was like ‘Boom! I’m here, in all my embroidered glory.'” Yass, Chrissy, yass!
“As people, we evolve, and so do our fashion choices,” she added. Preach.
