Sure, Chris Hemsworth has the arms of a Marvel superhero’s hammer and the thespian charm to make any gal swoon, but without his wife, Elsa Pataky, he’d know nothing, Jon Snow Thor.
In the November cover story for GQ Australia, Hemsworth admitted that Pataky made sacrifices aplenty so he could pursue his acting career.
In 2007, he and Pataky uprooted their lives in Australia to move to Malibu, California, when Hemsworth’s career took off. The couple married in 2010 and have three children together—India Rose (5) and twins Tristan and Sasha (3). After shooting multiple blockbusters in a row (ahem, Thor, Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghostbusters…), Hemsworth found his relationship was in need of some TLC, so he moved his family out of Hollywood and planted roots in Byron Bay, Australia, in 2015.
Of how his whirlwind rise to fame affected his relationship, Hemsworth revealed, “My wife and I fell in love, had kids, didn’t really see each other for a few years, then fell back in love.”
While Hemsworth and his biceps were off starring in seemingly every Marvel movie, Pataky cared for their three children and put her own modeling and acting career on the back burner.
Acutely aware of the sacrifice Pataky made, Hemsworth confessed, “In terms of work, she’s certainly given up more than I have.”
There you have it. Behind every Thor, there’s an Elsa Pataky doing the real heavy lifting.
