Watch out Gilead, there’s a bold new feminist in town.
Cherry Jones (American Crime, Transparent) is joining The Handmaid’s Tale season two cast as a very important character from Margaret Atwood’s novel: Offred’s (Elisabeth Moss) women’s rights activist mother.
Moss gushed to The Hollywood Reporter about Jones’s guest star role, saying, “Cherry was my fantasy choice [for the part]. We sent her the script, she wrote a lovely email back and she said yes almost immediately.”
In Atwood’s novel, Offred initially perceives her mother’s activism as extreme but comes to understand it more as the Gilead regime takes over. Following the government upheaval, Offred is unsure of her mother’s whereabouts and assumes she was sent to the dreaded Colonies.
Just 90 more days until season two…
