Cher Sings New Rendition of the ‘Golden Girls’ Theme Song in Betty White Tribute

We are big fans of The Golden Girls, and it seems that Cher is too.

With the recent passing of Betty White ahead of her 100th birthday, many celebrities have been showing their love for the comedic actress. And in an effort to honor White's legacy, NBC is airing a special titled Celebrating Betty White: America's Golden Girl, which is set to air on January 31 at 10 p.m. ET.

According to Deadline, the special will include commentary from President Joe Biden, Drew Barrymore, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon and many more, as they all reflect on the impressive career of White. And from the looks of Cher's latest Instagram post, it seems the special may also include a few surprise performances.

In the singer's new video, she belts a rendition of The Golden Girls theme song, “Thank You For Being a Friend.” Cynthia Fee's cover of the 1978 song acted as the show's theme for its entire run, and Cher has covered the song for the NBC special.

“Every Friend is Golden,” she wrote in her caption. “Tune In @nbc Mon 1/31 10pm ET 9pm CT #CelebratingBettyWhite.”

Fellow celebs loved the cover, like Andy Cohen, who commented a series of clapping emojis. Meanwhile, fans adored it too, like one user who said, “Omg Cher is doing the theme song dream come true!!!!”

While we're not sure what else will be in store for the Betty White tribute, NBC stated in a press release: “The hour will include clips that best capture White’s irreverent tone, spirit and impeccable comedic timing that are a hallmark to her decades-long career.”

We will definitely be tuning in.
