Charlize Theron’s Birthday Post for Her Mom Included a Rare Snap of Her Two Daughters

Recently, a few of our favorite celebrities have been sharing throwbacks with their moms, like Tracee Ellis Ross's runway strut with Diana Ross, or Katherine Heigl's black-and-white portrait featuring her mother.

Now, Charlize Theron is the latest to join that bunch, as she celebrates her mom, Gerda, on her birthday.

The Bombshell actress posted a series of family photos on Instagram, including selfies of the pair laughing, vintage throwbacks of Gerda chilling on the beach and a sweet snap of the actress kissing her mom on the cheek.

But hidden amongst the family photos was a special surprise: a rare snap of Theron's two daughters, Jackson, 9, and August, 6. In this photo, Gerda is posing with her grandkids during what appears to be a family hike through the forest.

In the caption, Theron showed love for her mom, saying, “Today is my moms birthday. I wanted to share her with all of you because anyone who knows her, knows how utterly awesome it’s is to stand in her sunlight. She TRULY is life.”

Theron continued, “She laughs louder than anyone I’ve ever met. She’s a great tennis player/golfer/hiker AND a gifted sh*t talker! She’s direct, she’s honest, she funny, and she’ll tell you how it is anytime of the day!”

At the end of the message, the Monster actress wrote a note in Afrikaans, the language of her birth country, South Africa. She said, “Ma, ek lief jou oor die maan,” which loosely translates to: “Mom, I love you to the moon.” She also added a moon emoji at the end of her post.

Fellow celebs wished Gerda a happy birthday, like January Jones, who said, “She’s the best! Happy Birthday G!!” Lilly Singh wrote, “My hero. Legit,” while Chelsea Handler added, “Happy birthday, Gerda! To the most fun mama I have ever had the pleasure of getting sh*tfaced with!”
