Just one year after the gang celebrated their 20th anniversary, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting a well-deserved makeover.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox Television confirmed that it’s reviving the cult classic TV series, which ran from 1997 to 2003.
So, what’s the sitch? Although the studio has yet to cast Buffy (previously played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), we do know it’s eyeing an African-American actress for the lead role.
Joss Whedon, who created the original series, will return as an executive producer. He will pen the script alongside Monica Owusu-Breen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), who will also act as showrunner on the reboot.
If you’re thinking, this sounds oddly familiar, you’re not alone. Rumors about a Buffy revival started circling last year, but the studio had yet to confirm a reboot…until now.
Yep, we’re totally wigging out.
