*This* Is What Happens to ‘The Bachelor’ Engagement Rings After Contestants Break Up

Even if the only episode of The Bachelor you’ve ever watched was the season 22 finale, you know that Becca K. and Arie aren’t the only Bachelor contestants who didn’t last forever...there are plenty. And we’ve been dying to know: What happens to the engagement rings?

Before each season finale, celebrity jeweler Neil Lane shows up with an assortment of engagement rings. Lane doles out the pricey sparklers for free (it’s unclear if ABC pays for the rings or if they’re offered in exchange for some free advertising), some dude gets down on one knee and then the world watches to see if and when the Bachelor Nation couple will break up.

According to Jesse Csincsak, who became engaged to DeAnna Pappas on season four of The Bachelorette, a Bachelor Nation couple gets to keep the ring if they stay together longer than two years. But if a couple calls it quits early, they have to give the ring back to ABC. (Talk about salt in the wound.)

Bachelor policy or not, Becca deserves some serious consolation diamonds…or the title of Bachelorette.
