Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo to Star in New ‘Wicked’ Movie

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are teaming up for a wicked good time. (Sorry, had to.)

Universal Pictures just announced that the actresses are joining the cast of Jon M. Chu’s upcoming movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked. Grande and Erivo will portray the roles of Glinda and Elphaba, respectively.

Shortly after the news broke, Grande celebrated the announcement on her personal Instagram account by sharing a slideshow of screenshots from a Zoom call between herself, Erivo and Chu.

The artist also posted a pic of the pink bouquet she received from her new co-star, who wrote: “‘Pink goes good with green.’ Congratulations Miss A, the part was made for you, I look forward to sharing this musical journey with you.”

The caption read, “Thank goodness [heart and arrow emoji] @jonmchu @cynthiaerivo @wickedmovie.”

It seems Grande returned the favor because Erivo also posted a slideshow of similar photos, featuring the white and green flowers she received from her co-star. The note read, “Dear Cynthia, honored doesn’t even begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz.”

Wicked (which is based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West) made its Broadway debut back in 2003, starring Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel. The musical tells the story of Elphaba and how she came to be the Wicked Witch of the West.

BRB, listening to the Wicked soundtrack on repeat.
