Anna Kendrick & Amanda Seyfried Talk of Starring in New ‘Wicked’ Movie

We don't know how many times we need to click our heels to make this dream casting happen, but Anna Kendrick recently discussed the possibility of starring in the new Wicked film adaptation alongside Amanda Seyfried.

The Pitch Perfect star discussed the much-anticipated film with E! News and when asked if she would consider auditioning for a part, she said, "Oh, these questions are always tricky to answer, to not create a thing. I mean, obviously like, Wicked is a masterpiece and a classic and it's an iconic show and that's all I'll say about that."

The idea was originally posed by Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried, who has apparently been campaigning for a Wicked film for years. She told Variety's Awards Circuit podcast that her dream co-star was Kendrick, saying, "I thought that her Elphaba would be really solid, and, you know, I sing the high notes and she can sing, she can be the alto. She's an incredible singer." Besides Kendrick, the Dear John actress also mentioned that her Les Misérables co-stars Anne Hathaway and Samantha Barks would be good fits for the role as well.

Apparently, Seyfried had approached Kendrick about the idea in the past, but the Twilight star was unaware that she had shared it with the press. She said, "That's so funny. I hadn't heard that, but I, when I met her in real life, she said that to me."

While we would love to see these actresses work together, no roles have been officially cast yet. The Wicked film has been in the works since 2004, going through numerous development changes before Deadline finally announced in February that Jon M. Chu (the director behind Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights) has signed on.

We'll keep our fingers crossed that this dream combo becomes a reality.
