Major news for Whole Foods devotees: Amazon announced that following the close of its acquisition of the natural-food giant, it will begin rolling out changes. First on the agenda? Lowering prices on some essential items, starting August 28.
Where exactly are we seeing the markdowns? Organic staples including apples, brown eggs, salmon and avocados are on today’s list, with more to follow. (Psst: If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you’ll get even more discounts.)
We know what you're thinking: How much will prices actually lower? Um, a lot, it turns out. Prices for some items have been slashed by as much as 43 percent. Here’s proof: Organic avocados are now $1.49 each (from $2.50), bananas are 69 cents per pound (from 99 cents), and tomatoes on the vine are $1.99 per pound (from $3.49). Shopping tip: Follow the orange "Whole Foods + Amazon" signs to find the deals.
Looks like you really can get a Whole Foods haul on a Trader Joe’s budget. Swoon.
