Cool cat and This Is Us groovy grandpa William sent the majority of America into a deep depression when he tragically lost his battle with cancer in the episode titled “Memphis” in season one. But today, series creator Dan Fogelman revealed William will be back for season two...as a jazz lovin', Randall supportin' ghost.
Fogelman further spilled that William (Ron Cephas Jones) will make several cameos in the show’s second season. In one scene, Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) birth father will appear as a hallucination, much like Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) character throughout the first season. “There might be a conversation that a character might have with [William] imagining he’s there,” Fogelman told Entertainment Weekly. Good, because we all know Randall needs him.
Additional William appearances will come by way of flashbacks. “We’re going to go into his previous stories—things we didn’t know about him and didn’t see,” the This Is Us creator said. “So very much the way that Jack lives in the show, even though we know he’s already gone, is very much the way that William can,” Fogelman further clarified.
Bless those creative This Is Us geniuses. We’re so happy to have William back in our lives. Only 54 more days, ya'll.
