Viola Davis wants her 6-year-old daughter, Genesis Tennon, to grow up making her own choices, but when it comes to dressing up like a Disney princess, the actress has one specific rule.

The How to Get Away with Murder star recently opened up about her childhood insecurities and the impact they’ve had on her parenting choices. She revealed that she wanted to have hair like Oprah and a body like Diana Ross, which negatively affected her self-esteem. To help her daughter, Genesis, develop a healthier mind-set, Davis encourages her to embrace her own identity, even when she’s playing dress-up.

Davis told Yahoo Beauty, “I say, ‘You gotta wear your hair exactly the way it is. You can be Wonder Woman, but you gotta be Wonder Woman with your hair. You can be Elsa, but you gotta be Elsa with your hair.’”

Davis is a longtime advocate of encouraging women to embrace their natural features and even made headlines in 2012 when she sported her gorgeous natural hair at the Oscars.

You are one kind, smart and important woman, Viola Davis.
