We’re pretty familiar with Serena Williams’s unparalleled career and ever-growing baby bump. But her love story with fiancé and Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian? Not so much.
Williams sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair and finally dished on their love story and pregnancy. And, guys, it's so super cute.
Here's the gist: The couple met by chance in Rome in May of 2015. Williams had gathered with her team before playing in the Italian Open and Ohanian was fighting a wicked hangover with the help of a poolside breakfast. They struck up a conversation, and Williams’s agent invited Ohanian to the match that evening. Williams said she didn’t play particularly well (but still won, obvs) and decided to text Ohanian later that month and invite him to Paris to watch her play again. The couple walked around Paris for six straight hours and, voilà, fell in love.
In December of the following year, Ohanian surprised Williams by proposing in essentially the same spot they had met.
By January, about a week before she was set to play the Australian Open, Williams unexpectedly found out she was pregnant. She called Ohanian, told him to come to Melbourne, and when he stepped off the plane, she gave him a bag of six positive pregnancy tests. (Overkill? Nah.) Williams went on to win seven games in a row and, subsequently, the entire tournament.
