The Royal Family Just Shared the Sweetest Queen Elizabeth Throwback Pics (and Revealed She's Still Riding Horses at Nearly 94)

All hail the royal family Twitter account for keeping us royally obsessed during our self-isolation. Today, @RoyalFamily gave us the loveliest roundup of throwback pictures of Queen Elizabeth II in honor of National Pet Month.

Truth be told, we didn't know we needed to see Her Majesty the Queen in throwback photos with all manner of four-legged critters, but now that we have, we are so thankful to the social media managers over at Buckingham Palace for sharing.

"Today we are marking National Pet Month. The nation's pets have kept us company during lockdown, and have joined our daily walks! #nationalpetmonth," the royal family's social media account captioned the first two images. We're hoping this is the queen's veiled way of saying she's still enjoying fresh air and walks on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The second photo features Princess Anne, Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and a baby Prince Andrew sitting on the lawn with a few of the queen's famous corgis.

The account writes that the first royal corgis, named Dookie (Dookie as in "Dukie," if you're like us and you insist on knowing the background story behind this name...) and Jane, joined the royal family in 1933, when King George VI gave them to his daughters, then-Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret.

"On her 18th birthday, Princess Elizabeth was given her very own Corgi named Susan, and has owned more than 30 corgis and dorgis since," the royal family tweeted.

FYI: Dorgis are a cross between a dachshund and a Welsh corgi. According to The Guardian, this hybrid started when one of Queen Elizabeth's corgis mated with a dachshund, Pipkin, belonging to Princess Margaret.

Forget "man's best friend"... All in favor of changing the phrase to "queen's best friend," say "aye!"

These throwback photos of the young royal couple and their beloved animals make us wish every month were National Pet Month.

"Her Majesty’s love of horses has remained with her throughout her life," the caption of another Tweet read. "Here, she is pictured with her pony 'Peggy' at the age of six. Today, she still rides horses and takes a great interest in the horses which she breeds and owns for racing."

Still riding horses at the age of 93 (soon to be 94 next week)?! Long may she rein reign.
