The Royal Family Shares a Stunning Final Portrait of Queen Elizabeth on Instagram

On the morning of Monday, September 19, the royal family will gather together to celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8 at the age of 96. Ahead of the monarch's funeral, however, the palace has released one of her final official portraits, which was taken earlier this summer during her Platinum Jubilee.

The gorgeous shot was shared to the official royal family Instagram. "Ahead of Her Majesty The Queen’s Funeral, a new photograph has been released," the caption read.

It continued: “[This portrait] was taken this year to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, as she became the first British Monarch to reach this milestone. Tomorrow, millions will come together to commemorate her remarkable life.”

In the stunning shot, Queen Elizabeth is all smiles as she rocks a powder blue ensemble. In typical fashion, she accessorized with three strands of pearls and matching earrings, along with aquamarine clip brooches, which were gifted to her by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother on her eighteenth birthday in 1944.

It feels especially fitting that the Queen chose to wear these clips for what would turn out to be one of her final portraits. According to The Court Jeweller, these accessories had a strong sentimental value for the monarch, who wore them regularly. As Honey also pointed out, these were also the first brooches Queen Elizabeth chose to wear for a public engagement following the passing of her husband, Prince Philip, in 2021.

Royal followers loved the photo, with one commenter writing, “This is a beautiful portrait.” Another added, “Epitome of grace.”

Back in June, the royal family released another new portrait of the Queen in honor of her Platinum Jubilee. The photo by Ranald Mackechnie was captured at Windsor Castle.

In the caption was a quote from Her Royal Majesty, reading, “Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbors and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth.”
