Patricia Arquette is diving into a dark new role.
The Oscar winner is set to star in the first season of Hulu’s upcoming anthology series, The Act, according to Deadline.
The first season of the true-crime series centers on the murder story of Dee Dee Blanchard (Arquette), which was brought to public light by HBO’s documentary Mother Dead and Dearest. For those unfamiliar, the doc explored the relationship between Dee Dee and her daughter Gypsy Rose, whom everyone believed to be a sickly young girl—until she killed her mother after years of abuse. By Gypsy’s account, Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, a mental disorder in which a caregiver makes their child sick in order to receive sympathy from others.
Now, The Act, written by Nick Antosca and Michelle Dean, will explore the mother and daughter’s relationship in greater detail.
An air date has yet to be announced, but one thing’s for sure: We can’t wait to tune in.
