Oprah FaceTimed Ellen to Report on the California Mudslides & We Got Teary-Eyed
Southern California residents are in the midst of crisis as mudslides ravage Santa Barbara County, and Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres happen to be some of those residents. While Winfrey’s property is “fine,” she took to Instagram yesterday to share footage of the remarkable devastation.
The Wrinkle in Time star donned rain boots and trekked through shin-deep mud on her property line, commenting “Oh, my God. So there used to be a fence right here. That’s my neighbor’s house—devastated. And debris is everywhere.”
The media maven also FaceTimed with fellow Montecito, California, resident DeGeneres on yesterday’s emotional Ellen show.
Winfrey shared, “I’m looking out the front window, I think everything’s fine, everything’s fine, and it wasn’t until I put my boots on and went outside walking and I realized everything wasn’t indeed fine.”
The mudslides have come after the fastest-spreading wildfire in history set California cities ablaze. With the sudden downpour of rain, the charred ground was not able to absorb water.
As of today, the natural disaster has taken 17 lives and left 28 injured. Many families and individuals in the 10,000 person community are still missing.
