Break out the black flannels, because we have official confirmation about how ABC’s new show The Conners is going to begin.
In an interview with The Sunday Times over the weekend, actor John Goodman confirmed what many fans of the Roseanne revival had guessed: The new spin-off would begin with the death of Roseanne Conner.
Asked about how his character, Dan, would react, he said: “I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”
Fans guessed as much when ABC released the synopsis for the show, which is set to premiere this fall. It reads: “After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. This iconic family—Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J.—grapples with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns—with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.”
We’re interested to see just how “the family prevails” without the main character. Guess we’ll have to tune in on October 16 at 8 p.m. to see.
