Sorry, Jared Leto, but it appears there’s a new Joker in town.
Warner Bros. just announced that Joaquin Phoenix is set to star in the highly anticipated Joker origin movie. Although Leto most recently played the character in Suicide Squad, his lack of involvement should come as no surprise, since the studio is already developing a stand-alone Joker movie with the Dallas Buyers Club actor.
Phoenix’s version will take place in the ’80s and show viewers how the Joker became the mastermind criminal we love to hate. Todd Phillips (The Hangover) will write and direct the movie, with Scott Silver (The Finest Hours) serving as a co-writer.
Oh, how we’ve missed that crusty face paint.
