Henry Cavill is heading to Netflix for a brand-new series based on a popular fantasy franchise.
The Justice League actor is set to star in The Witcher, according to Variety. This will be Cavill’s first television role since he appeared on Showtime’s The Tudors, so yeah, it was a long time coming.
The Witcher is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s best-selling collection of short stories and novels about a fictional monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia (Cavill). Sapkowski debuted the franchise in the ’80s in Poland and published the most recent book, Seasons of Storms, in 2013.
Although we don’t know much about the new series, we do know Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (The Defenders) will serve as executive producer and showrunner. Alik Sakharov (Game of Thrones), Alex Garcia Lopez (Utopia) and Charlotte Brändström (The Disappearance) will direct the eight-episode season.
No word on a premiere date, but we’re already itching to see Cavill’s on-screen transformation.
