Update: Since this story was initially published, the royal family has updated their website to include information about Prince Philip's life and accomplishments, and has restored its other tabs as well.

The British royal family just shared a heartbreaking update on their official website, which has been stripped of its content and replaced with a single page.

On April 9, 2021, it was announced that Queen Elizabeth's husband, Prince Philip, has passed away at the age of 99. The website now only reveals an official statement, along with a note that site changes will need to be made to reflect the news of his passing.

The statement reads, "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

It continues, "Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

Towards the bottom of the page, it's also confirmed that the entire website is down for the time being, though there's no word on when it will be back up. It says, "The official website of the Royal Family is temporarily unavailable while appropriate changes are made."

Kate Middleton and Prince William honored the late patriarch by replacing the main photo on their Twitter page with one of Prince Philip. Additionally, there's been an outpouring of heartfelt tributes from influential figures around the world. For instance, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison released a statement that says, "Australians send our love and deepest condolences to Her Majesty and all the Royal family. The Commonwealth family joins together in sorrow and thanksgiving for the loss and life of Prince Philip. God bless from all here in Australia."

India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, also tweeted, "He had a distinguished career in the military and was at the forefront of many community service initiatives. May his soul rest in peace.“

The prince will be sorely missed.
