Sure, most celebs get tons of designer merch sent to them on the daily (just on the off-chance that they might get photographed wearing the brand’s swag). But one celebrity (and, um, our mega girl-crush) purchases clothing for a good cause: Serena Williams.
The tennis star (and mom to baby Alexis) was spotted shopping in New York’s trendy Tictail Market and bought a hat from a brand called Unconditional Love, which donates all of its proceeds to Lupus research.
The brand’s story is actually so amazing: According to the founder, whose sister suffers from Lupus (an autoimmune disease that attacks the body’s own organs and tissues), when the family needed to decide on team uniforms, they chose to focus on hats since “many living with Lupus suffer from severe sun sensitivity. The protective bucket hat was one way we could lend support to someone living with Lupus.” In addition to bucket hats, the brand sells baseball caps (what Williams opted for) and sweaters.
One badass accessory for the tennis pro, one more step toward finding a cure for Lupus. (And we’re not sobbing, you are.)
