Remember that pivotal scene in season one, episode nine of Game of Thrones when Ned Stark was beheaded? Do you also remember him mumbling something before getting the ax? Well, now we know what he said.

Sean Bean, who played the late King in the North on the hit HBO show, sat down with Huffington Post and revealed Ned Stark’s final words.

Many fans believe he’s saying “All men must die” or asking the Three-Eyed Raven (aka Bran) to bring him back from the dead, but the GoT veteran shared that he’s really just saying a simple prayer.

Bean explained, “I couldn’t be too specific, because I don’t know if religion [like that] was around in those days, whatever they were. I just thought, ‘What would you do if this were really gonna happen?’ You probably would pray. You probably would murmur some words and you’d keep it quiet. You’d keep it to yourself.”

He went on to say, “It was an interesting thing to do for me at that point. There’s not much you can do really, you’ve got your head on a block. That’s about the only thing you can do is murmur.”

He has a point, but how much cooler would it have been if Ned Stark came back and pried the iron throne from Cersei’s (Lena Heady) evil hands? Oh well.
